The Great Commandment
Preacher: Pastor Ben Robison Series: The Laws of Love Topic: Love Passage: Luke 10:25–37
On Family Sunday, we gathered to worship and conclude our 11-week series on the Ten Commandments by discussing the parable of the Good Samaritan. The Ten Commandments serve three primary purposes: to restrain sin in society, to point out our need for Jesus, and to guide us in loving God and others. Jesus summarized these commandments into two principles: loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and loving our neighbor as ourselves. The parable of the Good Samaritan, found in Luke 10:25-37, illustrates these principles by showing that our neighbor is anyone we encounter, regardless of their background. The Samaritan's actions teach us that love requires action and must be balanced with truth and grace. As we reflect on this parable, we are challenged to identify our neighbors, take practical steps to help those in need, and balance truth and grace in our interactions. Let us commit to loving God and our neighbors, using the commandments as our guide.
